The authorization from the Swiss Federal Council is a key milestone and necessary for any canton looking to deploy online voting. During the elections on November 27th 2016, Fribourg citizens overseas will benefit not only from the efficiencies that online voting provides, but also from full voting privacy, security and verifiability ensuring their vote has been cast-as-intended and recorded-as-cast. Post the November 2016 elections, in addition to overseas voters, in country citizens will also be enabled to leverage the online voting channel and offer universal verifiability to ensure the ballots have been counted-as-recorded.
