Together with Scytl, Swiss Post is able to provide a state-of-art online voting solution that covers all the unique requirements of the Swiss voting system.
The authorization from the Swiss Federal Council is a key milestone and necessary for any canton looking to deploy online voting. The authorization ensures the solution provided to Swiss citizens complies with the necessary software, security and infrastructure requirements to run a transparent and auditable online channel for binding elections and ongoing citizen consultations.
During the elections on November 27th 2016, Fribourg citizens overseas will benefit not only from the efficiencies that online voting provides, but also from full voting privacy, security and verifiability ensuring their vote has been cast-as-intended and recorded-as-cast. Post the November 2016 elections, in addition to overseas voters, in country citizens will also be enabled to leverage the online voting channel and offer universal verifiability to ensure the ballots have been counted-as-recorded.
The partnership and joint solution provided by Scytl and Swiss Post is enabling Cantons who wish to grow the percentage of citizens that can use the online channel for both binding elections and citizen consultations. The security and verifiability protocols provided have been customized by Scytl and Swiss Post to meet Swiss legal, security and verifiability requirements that will enable Swiss Cantons to implement online voting solutions with end to end security, verifiability and the reassurance that Swiss Post operates the online voting platform from its own FINMA-certified data centers within Switzerland.
