Barcelona, May 19, 2015 – Scytl, the worldwide leader in secure online voting and election modernization, today announced the successful deployment of Scytl Online Voting at l’Ajuntament de Girona for its first ever secure online participatory budget consultation, resulting in unprecedented citizen engagement with an increase close to 50% in citizen participation.
The online voting took place between April 20-25, 2015 and invited citizens of Girona to cast their vote relative to a selection of 98 projects. The consultation was fully customized down to the neighborhood level, ensuring citizens could vote for those projects that affected specifically where they live. During this 6 day period, citizens were able to securely vote from the device of their choice (computers, laptops, smartphones or tablets) at a time and date that was convenient for them.
The successful deployment of the online channel and the significant increase in participation paint an encouraging picture for the ongoing expansion of innovative and secure online voting in Girona. Securely and efficiently embracing the channels citizens use on a daily basis have helped ensure the success of this consultation: of the votes received, 75% were cast via the online channel and only 25% cast via the traditional paper channel.
