With the aim of encouraging voter participation and providing greater convenience to its members, the Institute of Engineers of Sri Lanka (IESL) successfully implemented Scytl’s online voting technology, in parallel to postal voting, during its 2017/18 council elections.
For the first time, members residing abroad were offered the possibility to cast their vote online from any device with an Internet connection, resulting in a turnout increase of over 58% compared to elections held the previous year.
With this first implementation of online voting in Sri Lanka, the IESL has marked an important milestone in the country, providing the Election Commission with a solid reference to further analyze the feasibility of innovative voting technologies for future elections.
