As part of the 21st International Conference on Business Information held in Berlin on July 18 – 20 2018, Adrià Rodríguez-Pérez, legal researcher at Scytl, assessed the potential of blockchain technology in internet voting and presented the paper entitled “Blockchain-based internet voting: systems’ compliance with international standards”.
Over the past few years, Blockchain has indeed emerged as the technology that could change the way services are delivered, and elections — specifically internet voting — are one of the areas where it can prove beneficial, whenever specific security layers are applied to guarantee voter privacy and election integrity.
Adria’s lecture presented how Scytl was able to identify a set of common features and challenges on how blockchain can contribute to the conduct of more transparent and secure elections and referendums through the analysis of several blockchain-based internet voting systems and their degree of compliance against the Council of Europe standards.
