The Municipality of Halifax goes completely paperless with Scytl technology

Oct 16, 2019

The Canadian Municipality of Halifax recently utilized Scytl Online Voting in a special by-election to elect a councilor for District 15, Lower Sackville. While Halifax has past experience with electronic voting, this most recent election, taking place from September 28th until October 5th, 2019, marks its first entirely paperless election.

The Scytl solution consisted of online voting technology that could be used from voters’ personal devices, or on voting kiosks at polling stations. It also included Interactive Voice Response (IVR) telephone voting, and voter list integration with the Canadian data processing company, Datafix. 3,613 electronic votes were cast between two voting methods, and over 86% of eligible voters elected to send in their ballot through the online voting channel.
